The Sierra Vista Sunrise Rotary 12th Annual Rising Sun Run will be held Saturday, November 2nd, 2024. Last year’s Rising Sun Run was tremendous success and our best year ever for providing funding for youth scholarships, youth leadership and professional skill development programs, and service project support for our local non-profit organizations. Registration will open on April 1, 2024.
Located on the high desert plain of southeast Arizona, Sierra Vista offers the ideal venue to stage a beautiful and challenging Half Marathon and 5K event with a 1M fun Run/Walk. Starting at 4,500 feet and with the Huachuca mountains as their background, the courses wind through country neighborhoods with the half marathon continuing up to the half marathon turnaround at the entrance to the beautiful Ramsey Canyon Preserve at 5500’ of elevation. The return to the half marathon finish line affords beautiful vistas of the San Pedro River valley to the end of the run. Both courses are USA Track & Field certified.
The City of Sierra Vista is a major sponsor of the Rising Sun Run with the RSR being a key event of their Sports Tourism Initiative; an Initiative to expand and bring sporting events to Sierra Vista from across Arizona.
Estimated race starting times will be as follows:
Half Marathon - 7:30am, 5K - 8:15am, 1M Run/Walk - 8:30am
Timing will be provided by “On Your Left Fitness and Timing” using a chip timing system. Timing will end at 10:30am and the event courses will close at 11:00am.
First aid stations, rest room facilities, and water stations are located at race headquarters and on the course.
The final meeting of the members of the Rotary Club of Sierra Vista West was held on Thursday, February 17, 2022. Effective March 1, 2022, the Rotary Club of Sierra Vista Sunrise will merge with Sierra Vista West. The merger of these two clubs will be chartered under the Rotary Club of Sierra Vista Sunrise.
The Rotary Club of Sierra Vista Sunrise is a perfect fit for the previous members of Sierra Vista West. Both clubs have a long history of focusing their service projects on the Sierra Vista West End, and members have often worked together to achieve their goals. President Scott Weiss will welcome the members from the Rotary Club of Sierra Vista West at the first meeting of the newly merged club on Wednesday, March 2, at 6:30 am, My Place Restaurant, 1081 E.
